
Clinical Experience
Michael McCarthy is a Clinical Exercise Physiologist and Sport Scientist with extensive experience delivering specialist exercise rehabilitation across NHS and community healthcare settings. His clinical background includes cardiac, pulmonary and Long COVID rehabilitation, alongside supporting individuals living with complex long-term health conditions.
Throughout his career, Michael has worked across healthcare settings in both Ireland and the UK, developing extensive experience in evidence-based exercise rehabilitation. He began his career with Siel Bleu Ireland, delivering specialist exercise programmes for people living with neurological and long-term health conditions, including Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, dementia, stroke, COPD and intellectual disabilities, before progressing into NHS roles specialising in pulmonary rehabilitation, cardiac rehabilitation and Long COVID rehabilitation.
As a Band 6 Senior Exercise Physiologist within the NHS, Michael led the Long COVID Exercise Rehabilitation Service, supporting pathway development, mentoring students, developing digital rehabilitation resources and working alongside consultants, nurses, physiotherapists and other healthcare professionals to improve patient outcomes. At The Treatment Table, Michael provides specialist Clinical Exercise Physiology services for individuals living with cardiovascular, respiratory, cancer, post-viral fatigue, ME/CFS and other long-term health conditions.
